Brisbane Patio Options
In Brisbane, patios are a much needed outdoor space for all the family to enjoy.
The summer holidays are over and kids are back at school and you are back at work.
Did you get a chance to use your patio over summer?
Was there enough shade?
Was it a pleasant area to sit out and relax in?
Was it really hot and stuffy and being inside was a cooler option?
Or maybe - your current patio or pergola is just down right ugly and dated!
The question we are asking.... Does your patio need makeover
The next question - Do you want a better patio area for the next round of warm weather?
If you do...Then now is the time to start the patio design so that you can have the ideal outdoor area to use.
Patio Roofing Options
The things to consider are the style of patio roofing.
What height did you want it, what materials to use and are you going to insulate your patio roof?
Patio roof designs can be done to suit your home and your lifestyle.
No longer are patios tacked onto the side of the home with a low roof that creates a dark and dingy area in winter and a hot and stuffy area in summer
Lets raise the roof height so you can get that all important airflow and this is something we love to help or clients choose the patio roof style.
A flyover roof can look really impressive or if you want to create a high vaulted ceiling, then the classic pitched roof is still a popular option.
Don't forget - you can also combine patio roofing styles so you may have a pitched area and a flat roof area.
Then you can look at different roofing materials and finishes - so not only does your patio add value to your home- but is also becomes that favorite area to hang out
The roof can also be insulated so it keeps the heat out and also has a really finished look. The insulation creates a ceiling effect and this is when a patio can become like an out door room and even look like an extension.
Insulated roofs are great to add lighting features and even add some ceiling fans so you keep the air moving and still enjoy being outside even on the hottest of days.
Or maybe you don't want a permanent roof over your outdoor area.
Maybe a pergola option is better suited to you as it gives some protection from the weather or maybe the new style roofing louvers or retractable awnings are more what you need?
These are a perfect option for a smaller yard that you do not want a patio area to take over all the available space

Adding A Privacy Screen
You have built a new patio and deck, you have now got great protection from the sun and rain but what about your neighbours??
With the Aussie backyard reducing in size, having a backyard that creates your own private oasis is important.
Many new estates have 2 story homes that overlook backyards.
You can never fully enjoy your yard if you feel that your neighbours will be seeing you "let down your hair"
Creating privacy screens can be as simple as adding a lattice extension panel on the top of an existing fence or you might decide to create a green screen and plant screening plants like clumping bamboo or a quick growing lillypilly. But the honest truth is that these do take a couple of years to establish before they can be a screen.
And the lattice extension on an existing fence line was something that was done in the '90's when lattice was a thing
Today's privacy screens can be used not only to keep some privacy for you and your family, they can also work as a landscaping feature plus the benefit of being able to screen eyesores such as rubbish bins, pool pumps and filters or air conditioning units.
What Sort Of Privacy Screen?
Create a feeling of privacy and minimise the view from neighbouring homes with a more modern take on a traditional pergola. The slatted privacy screen allows in filtered light and more importantly it still allows for airflow.
The slats can be horizontal, vertical or even a modern take on a lattice with having them run diagonally. The screen can be created out of hardwoord, painted treated pine or even look at the Colorbond fence slat screens and the louvered screens which allow you to open and close the screens to give you control of the sun, wind and view depending on the day or your mood.
These can add a real architectural feel to a pergola.
The slats also work incredibly well to be placed in front of eyesores such as rubbish bins, pool pumps and air conditioning units.
Becoming more common in garden design, these artistic screens make an impressive impact but are super practical. They look great as part of a garden design and work perfectly to enclose a patio or pergola side area. They can also be free standing in the garden to create smaller screen walls and can be an artistic touch around a spa . They also look great against a wall as a wall art piece.
We do it in an office to create work spaces and we can do the same within a garden or yard. The partitions can be solid panels but they are staggered in placement and staggered in varying heights so they do block views into the yard but you do not feel fenced in. They also help to block the eyesores like rubbish bins, pool equipment and aircon units. Play with the heights of freestanding walls – notice how the ones here are sized to block a parked car from view
It is easy to add a privacy screen when building a patio, pergola or new deck area and the Pergolas Brisbane team we have the experience to know what will work best for your needs
